科研簡介:
This summer research program is a summary of several topics in optics. In this program, students will be introduced to the current research topics, including nonlinear optics, quantum optics, and computational optics. We will build an interferometer and get to experience cool experimental aspect in optics. A few mini-projects will be given to help understanding the material. Upon completion of this program, students should have comprehensive knowledge about the field of optics.

Session 1:
Quantum Technology Overview
Task1:
Overview of what we can do with quantum enhanced technology. Topics include quantum teleportation, quantum entanglement, quantum communication, and others.
Session2:
Fundamental of Quantum Mechanics, an Introduction
Task2:
Learn some basic concepts of quantum mechanics.Topics include Schr?dinger and Heisenberg picture of quantum mechanics, Dirac notation, etc.

Session3:
Always start with a Harmonic Oscillator
Task3:
Learn some more basic knowledge of quantum mechanics. We will quantize the LC circuit and introduce annihilation and creation operators.

Mach-ZehnderInterferometer (lab)
Task4:
Design an interferometer by yourself. (We will provide equipment and necessary safety training)
Session5:
Introduction to geometric optics, lens design, and polarizationoptics (mini project)
Task5:
Explore some other aspects of physical optics. You will get to design a waveplate!
Session6:
Fourier Optics and propagation of light (mini project)
Task7:
Learn some basic knowledge of wave optics, which includes Maxwell equations and Helmholtz wave equation. Understand some normal optical phenomenon, such as reflection and refraction, from wave optics point of view. We will do simulation on light propagation in vacuum usingMATLAB.
Session7:
Imaging with a lens, coherent imaging and incoherent imaging
Introduction to Computational Optics (mini project)
Task7:
Learn how an image is formed by using a lens, understand why propagating through a lens means doing Fourier transform. Get to know the concepts of coherent imaging and incoherent imaging. We will do a simulation on imaging formation usingMATLAB.
Session8:
Holograph, phase retravel and 3D imaging (mini project)
Task8:Learn several 3D imaging methods (recover the phase of the wave). We will do simulation and process the real image data using MATLAB.
